With its state-of-the-art in 1993 graphics and sounds it looks pretty darn primitive these days but totally blew my mind when it came out. I actually find this pretty exciting because you have to sit back and watch how your planning plays out without any direct control. Once the launch commences you watch a series of short video clips and animations showing the different stages of the mission. Unlike KSP, you cannot directly control your craft once the mission launches. You can set up missions using a variety of real-world and fictional hardware and scenarios that greatly affect the direction of your development program as the game progresses. The game closely follows the historic developments of the space race but gives you the freedom decide to when, where, and how these missions take place. ![]() During each of these turns you have to manage your budget to most effectively research and develop space technology, train astronauts, and plan missions to let your program expand and grow until reaching the moon. The gameplay takes the form of turn-based strategy starting in the year 1957 and ending twenty years later in 1977. Regardless of which you choose, the ultimate goal is to beat the other side to land a man on the moon and safely return him back to earth. In the game you take the role of either the director of the newly created NASA for the United States, or the leader of the USSR's manned space program. ![]() It occurred to me that many of my fellow KSP fans may never have heard of Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space, a fantastic space program simulation game from the early '90s. ![]() Apologies if this has been posted before, I tried to search the sub but we all know how well that works.
